April – Jeremy Gilbertson
Member of the Month:
Jeremy Gilberston is CrossFit Alpharetta’s member of the month for March 2013. Jeremy has blossomed athletically lately. He almost always holds the top spot on the leader board. Members in the gym look up to him and use his times as a bench mark. He has taken off since listening to my advice to stop running 3 miles in a vest after each WOD.
Here are few of his numbers:
Front Squat 240
Power Clean 205
Max Du 200+
10k w 20# vest 56:15
- Coach Justin
What got you into CrossFit?
A crazy Canadian friend of mine, Max Kallos.
What changes have you noticed since starting CrossFit?
Physically,I’ve gotten significantly stronger and more fit. It has prepared me to live the active life i want to lead. Whether it’s turning a tarp into a carnival ride for my three kids, or carrying my sleeping 8 year old and five year old up the stairs at the same time, Crossfit has turned me into super dad. Mentally, it gives me the confidence to tackle anything.
What do you enjoy most about CrossFit Downtown?
We have a great crew at CFA. Solid balance of healthy competition, classic sarcasm, encouragement and community. Justin and the coaching staff have helped me elevate my game while keeping it really fun. I get the most satisfaction from beating Jaime Ulmer.
What do you find to be the biggest challenge with CrossFit?
My biggest challenge is between my ears. Learning to live in the uncomfortable and pushing just a bit further is a goal that I will continue to reach toward. Picking the bar up when my brain says no.
What is your favorite movement and why?
Last year I would have said double unders because I can crank them out. This year my answer is power cleans because I’m actually starting to get my head around technique. I actually like spending time grinding out on the things that I struggle with.
Anything you would like to add/say?
Gilbys Gauntlet is coming soon. Test your skills and help raise some dough for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Videos and pics from last years race coming soon. It’s the more attractive, funnier version of Justin’s Gauntlet.
